The history of Palos de la Frontera is intrinsically linked to the discovery of America. Therefore, the various projects promoted by the Town Hall and awarded by Europa Nostra focused on buildings and urban spaces from the time of Christopher Columbus. As to the buildings, the church of Saint George was restored. It is said to be the last place where the admiral heard mass before embarking for the Indies. The house of the Pinzón brothers was also refurbished, transformed into the Columbus Museum and Library. Regarding spaces, the Fontanilla park was created, named for its 13th-century Mudejar fountain, from which the ships of the time were supplied with water. The Town Hall overlooks the Plaza del Comandante Ramón Franco and the statue of the famous sailor Martín Alonso Pinzón.
