The complex includes different spaces, among which twenty-five lime kilns stand out, six houses used by workers of the trade, the furniture associated with them, and the protected quarry, commonly known as a historical quarry.

The manufacture of lime has historically been one of the predominant activities in the Sevillian town of Morón de la Frontera. As a result of the use of industrial techniques, the artisan production of lime fell throughout the territory. As a result, the transfer of the traditional trade and the activity ceased, with the sequential deterioration of buildings and related equipment. The only kilns that remained active were those of Morón de la Frontera. This town is characterized by the presence of abundant lime deposits, which made it an influential supplier of construction materials.

The Cultural Association “Hornos de la Cal de Morón” is a private non-profit entity that owns the Cal Museum. This centre has developed a significant task of preservation, dissemination, and conservation of lime culture. Its efforts go deep into the revaluation of traditional kilns and the restoration of the buildings used by the lime makers. Cal de Morón was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2011.
