Reason for the award :

For the rehabilitation and restoration, by rescuing, preserving, and reproducing all the elements of this 17th century property.

Since 1999, 29 Bizcocheros Street in the town centre, has been home to a picturesque 17th-century Jerez palatial house, where a decade before there was only rubble.

Until 1989, at 29 Bizcocheros Street, there were only ruins. With its acquisition that year by a private individual, the restoration that was to return these ruins to its brand new appearance of a picturesque Jerez palace from the 17th century began. Over the centuries the land had been subdivided into blocks for houses until their occupants were evicted in the early years of the 20th century, due to its decaying state. At the beginning of the restoration, only the arches and columns of the central patio were still standing. The project, which lasted almost ten years, began with the removal of rubble and general cleaning, as well as the consolidation of walls, and floors. Later, all the supplies and sanitation were installed. The duration of the works was so long due to the owner’s care in selecting the furniture and materials, which had to be as faithful to the originals as possible
