Ribadiso and Triacastela, municipalities of La Coruña and Lugo respectively, underwent different reforms related to the Jacobean route and the old spirit of welcoming pilgrims.

In preparation for the celebration of the Jacobean Holy Year in 1993 new and restored works were carried out along the Galician part of the Way.These involved the building of three new shelters, the rehabilitation of eleven Unitarian schools, and the restoration of two areas of traditional architecture, Triacastela in Lugo and Ribadiso in La Coruña. The criteria was to respect the history and preserve the landscape of each one, and the provision of a hostel for the pilgrims following the old tradition of the Jacobean route. In Triacastela, a hamlet of rural houses, whose hostel is already referenced in the 10th century, the structure of the old buildings was maintained and adapted to new purposes. While in Ribadiso, the old pilgrim hospital, dating back to the Middle Ages, was restored, as well as the ancient ashlar bridge and a single arch, of which there are documentary references in 572.
