For its contribution and method applied to the study of the cultural landscape of the Serpis river pathways, between Alcoy and Gandía, in a very significant territorial area due to its proximity to large coastal complexes.

The objective of the Urbacost project is to promote alternative tourism to that of sun and beach through coordination between the municipal axis of Alcoy-Gandía, through the Serpis river.

The objective of the Urbacost project is to promote alternative tourism to that of sun and beach coordinating the municipal axis of Alcoy-Gandía, through the Serpis river. It is committed to preserving and improving natural and cultural resources, reinforcing the image of historical centres, improving the function of pathways, and protecting the unique character of the interior landscape, defining a series of strategies to promote, in addition to tourism, economic growth, and the quality of life in the valley. The project constitutes an integrated action since it includes urban, environmental, and heritage activities.

This research has generated unpublished documentation, which is made available to the international scientific community and which opens up new lines of research. It is also part of the Interreg IIIB Community Initiative of the Western Mediterranean, which aims to analyze the relationships between coastal and inland cities in search of balance and equal opportunities between inland and coastal municipalities. The scope of the study has focused on the following towns: Alcoi, Muro d’Alcoi, Planes, L’Orxa, Beniarrés, Benimarfull, Alquerias de Aznar, Gainaes, Alcocer de Planes, and Gandía, always counting on the Serpis river basin 40 kilometres long as the articulating element.
