This is a highly significant work that the Alicante Provincial Council has published in three volumes; it includes all types of water-related works such as large dams, weirs, irrigation systems, reservoirs with associated hydraulic structures, cisterns, wells, drains, urban supply works, fountains, laundries, deposits, mills, fulling mills, and light factories.

This work is the result of more than ten years of intense research and is expanded in the doctoral thesis defended by Ágata Marquiegui Soloaga in 2007 at the University of Alicante. Its objective has been to catalogue the maximum number of hydraulic works within a study area that includes the province of Alicante. That covers both large systems and limited installations that, although of less transcendence or presence, are significant to learn about the history of irrigation and traditional water architecture. Ultimately, more than 1,500 files containing texts, maps, photographs, and historical, bibliographic, and archival references have been drawn up.

This abundance expresses the extraordinary wealth and diversity of the water culture in Alicante. It is a monumental work published in three volumes that proposes an innovative system for the cataloging of hydraulic works by sectors and municipalities. It is divided into five large groups: archaeological sites, irrigation and water, various uses, urban supply, and hydraulic factories. The cataloging, location, and knowledge of this heritage legacy and its history is the fundamental step towards its protection and preservation, as Europa Nostra has recognized with this award to Ágata Marquiegui Soloaga.
