Reason for the award :

In recognition of the merit of the recovery work on a building of such characteristics and period.

An old farm with seven residents, rehabilitated as a hotel, has returned the Casa del Temple all its Hispanic-Muslim to all its artistic wealth.

Until its final restoration and rehabilitation, the Casa del Temple was nothing more than an old house with seven residents in a narrow alley in Toledo. After its acquisition by a new owner, the original idea was to recover this old Mudejar Islamic palace, while it was being rehabilitated for residential use. As the works progressed, the quality of the archaeological finds changed the original purpose, and the building became a hotel, thus preserving its stylistic unity and recovering its old Andalusian essence. The structure was built on the vaults of the basement around a patio. The work restored all its splendor of stuccoed walls, plasterwork, lintel doors, carved eaves, and coffered ceilings: an excellent example of Hispanic Muslim art. According to its present owner, the old Casa del Tempe has the oldest wooden structures preserved in situ in all of Europe.
