Reason for the award :

Ramon Mayo's work on heritage in the double facet of businessman and patron is, by all means, exemplary. The awardee has put all his attention on the dissemination and awareness of heritage for decades. Hence, he has published numerous publications and sponsors and subsidizes training courses, conferences, seminars, and exhibitions. It financially supports the work of various foundations and cultural associations, as well as individual projects. In turn, he collaborates with research departments at different universities.

Since its foundation in 1987, Ramón Mayo’s company has intervened in the conservation of 35 places listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and in more than 1,000 works around the world.

The award to Ramon Mayo, founder, and president of Kalam, does justice to a work of more than thirty years in the service of the preservation of cultural heritage. His personality is clearly related to the company he founded in 1987, to offer comprehensive property restoration services that respect historical construction methods (masonry and traditional carpentry, plastering, mosaic, etc.)

Ramon Mayo, born in Madrid in 1955, qualified as an industrial officer. During his years working as a construction manager at D&C, he specialized in the installation of roofs with traditional techniques. Later, while studying Business Administration, he decided to link his professional future to the protection, conservation, and rehabilitation of buildings, founding Kalam.

Since then, Kalam has formed a multidisciplinary team of more than 500 specialists and has intervened in the conservation of 35 monuments declared World Heritage by Unesco. To name just a few, we highlight the Aqueduct of Segovia, the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the Palace of Versailles, or the fortified city of Carcasonne.
