Heritage Hub

Dating of the building: 2021.

Applicant: Kati Nurmi, project manager (Association of Cultural Heritage Education in Finland).

Reason for the award :

The jury especially valued the shared methodology on heritage, applied by many educational centres in different countries. The creation of digital materials, useful for generating interactions between communities and learning from the experience of other participants, was also taken into account.

During the fall of 2018, students became familiar with their cultural heritage and produced digital content on it. Spring 2019 was dedicated to experiencing and interpreting the heritage of others, both online and in cultural exchanges.

Heritage Hubs is a European project co-founded with the Creative Europe Programme that promotes cultural interaction by encouraging children and young people to explore and share their heritage while discovering and studying the heritage of others. The programme involved four countries through two institutions: the Urban Development Centre of Serbia, the San Millán de la Cogolla Foundation of Spain, VITECO E-learning solutions of Italy, and the Association of Cultural Heritage Education of Finland.

Over two years, children between the ages of 10 and 16 attended workshops on heritage run by specially trained teachers. The multiple activities included exchanges between countries, which made it possible to learn about the heritage wealth of neighbouring countries and enrich the collective sense of European identity.
